How Much Caffeine Is in an Energy Strip?

A single translucent Vantyx oral energy strip held at a fingertip on a paper-white surface in soft daylight, showing the format that carries 50mg of caffeine

One Energy Plus strip holds 50mg of caffeine. The same strip carries 30mg of L-Theanine and 1000mcg of vitamin B12, there are 30 strips in a pack, and every one of those numbers is printed on the label. Fifty milligrams is a deliberately small number, and we would rather you knew that than guessed.

The number on our label

50mg of caffeine per strip. That is the whole answer, and it does not change between strips, because the dose is built into the film rather than scooped or poured.

It is not an energy drink in a smaller package. It is a smaller number on purpose.

The rest of the strip is 30mg of L-Theanine and 1000mcg of vitamin B12, in a cranberry flavored film with no sugar and no calories. Thirty strips to a pack.

The label puts that 30mg of L-Theanine alongside the caffeine deliberately. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea, and the store's own description says it is paired with the caffeine to smooth its edge.

We are not going to tell you more than the label does. What is worth knowing is that the two sit in the same strip at a fixed ratio, so you are not combining anything yourself and there is nothing to time separately.

Where 50mg sits in a day that already has coffee in it

This is the practical question, and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on what else is in your day.

If you already drink coffee, a 50mg strip is a small addition rather than a replacement. If you are trying to stop at one coffee, it is a way to add a measured amount instead of pouring a second cup you cannot measure. The advantage is not that the number is low. It is that you know exactly what the number is.

That is harder than it sounds with brewed coffee, where the amount in the cup moves with the beans, the grind, the roast and how long it sat in the machine. A strip does not move.

How many you take in a day is not left open, either. The label sets it, and the next section quotes it.

What the label says about how many

The Energy Plus label is specific: "Take 1 strip anytime, up to a maximum of 1 strip per day. Do not take within 6 hours of bedtime."

Its warning adds the number that covers everything else in your day: "Do not exceed 400mg total caffeine per day." It also says: "Do not use if you are pregnant, nursing, or under 19 years of age. Not recommended for people sensitive to caffeine or with cardiovascular conditions."

So 50mg is the most a strip will ever add to your day, because one strip is the most the label allows. For the timing side of that, our post on when to take an energy strip works through the 6-hour cutoff, and choosing a supplement format covers strips against gummies, capsules and powder.

What changes when the format changes

No water, no capsule, no shaker. The strip dissolves on your tongue in about 30 seconds and there is nothing to wash down.

That matters less for the dose than for whether the dose actually gets taken. A powder needs a bottle and a sink. A can needs to be cold. A strip goes in a gym bag, a laptop sleeve or a pocket, and a pack of 30 is flat.

There is no sugar and no calories in it, which is the practical difference from most of what else carries caffeine at a desk.

Reading a caffeine number on any label

Two habits worth having, ours or anyone else's.

First, check whether the number is per serving or per container, and then check how many servings the container holds. A number printed large is not always the number you are about to take.

Second, check what the serving actually is. For us a serving is one strip, which is easy. For a powder it is a scoop, and scoops vary between products, so the number is only meaningful next to the scoop it belongs to.

Everything we publish is per serving as defined on that product's own label.

Common questions

How much caffeine is in one Vantyx energy strip?

50mg per strip. Each strip also carries 30mg of L-Theanine and 1000mcg of vitamin B12, in a cranberry flavored film with no sugar and no calories. There are 30 strips in a pack.

Is 50mg of caffeine a lot?

It is a deliberately small number, and the label caps it at one strip a day: "Take 1 strip anytime, up to a maximum of 1 strip per day. Do not take within 6 hours of bedtime." The same label says "Do not exceed 400mg total caffeine per day," and that total counts coffee, tea and anything else with caffeine in it.

How is a strip different from a coffee or an energy drink?

Mainly that the dose is fixed and printed. Brewed coffee moves with the beans, the grind, the roast and how long it sat, so the amount in the cup is an estimate. A strip is the same 50mg every time. It also needs no water, no cup and no can, and it has no sugar and no calories.

What else is in the Energy Plus strip besides caffeine?

30mg of L-Theanine and 1000mcg of vitamin B12. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea, and the store's description says it is paired with the caffeine to smooth its edge. The full panel is printed on the product page.
